I went back to work half days on Friday and just put my feet up most of the weekend although I did drive over to kathe's home to watch the debates and then stayed overnight...it is soooo fun not to have a two hour drive between us and our visits now.

More family news would be good....cuzzins..whazup????

  1. Hi everyone! Just felt like I need to start a rumor tonight. I think Mike had prostrate surgery today. I think he told me he was having it done on Jan. 7. So Mike I will call you tomorrow to verify, but I suspect you are in bed by now and may well have been since you got home today. (I think it is an outpatient procedure.) So we hope it went well and will do the trick. He had it done last February-so it's a re-do.

Kathe, get on line and tell us what Bret had to say. Did he get any of our packages? (I know we sent one and so have some of the rest of the family-Fred, I think.) Anyway, how is he holding up.

Will close for now. Love, Mary C.

  2. Dear All,
    It's soooo good hearing from
everyone. Mike, I hope you are
    feeling better after your surgery.
Be sure to let us know how you are
doing. Beth and Linda, I hope
    you are continuing to improve.
Wow! I just heard on the news
that the Pentagon has been asked,
and will probably agree, to send
an extra 3,000 troops to Afghanistan.
Mary, I am so grateful for your
asking about Brett. He has been
    so discouraged the last few
times I have talked to him because
he has said they simply do not
    have enough troops there. They
    are attacked daily, and any
troops they lose (it's been 1
out of 4), they do not replace them. So...maybe now he will get the much-needed help. Please pray that happens. I was so happy to hear his voice when he called me this last time, but he would not even discuss what's going on there - he indicated he is so disillusioned by it all. He is
starting to talk about the ill effects it is having on his psyche. He did tell me to let all of you know that he is SO VERY GRATEFUL for the emails, mail and packages. However, they are keeping him so busy that he has not had time to go get most of his packages nor to take the time to respond to each and every one of you. He asks that you PLEASE KEEP EMAILING HIM, as it lifts his spirits. He just can not get back to you like he would like.
Also, Bonnie, thank you for your
kind letter to me about Brett. He
told me some time ago that he was
touched that you had sent him mail.
    I am most appreciative.
    All else if fine. Emily,
Alicia and I are going shopping
    for bridesmaids dresses Saturday,
and her wedding dress has come
    in, so that's really exciting.
    I'm also really looking forward
    to Mary and Ed's anniversary
    party. Mary, when you have
    specifics, please let us know,
so we can make travel plans.
    Jo, I didn't email you a birthday
wish, but I did talk to you on
New Year's Day, so I hope that
    counts!
Keep the news rolling in! And,
    yes, cousins, where are you?
Please keep our soldiers in your
    prayers.
    Love, Kathe

  3. Hope Mike is doing fine. Kathe, did Brett get our package? We sent one in mid November and wondered if he has received it.
This is my first full week back at school. Hope everyone is doing good. Pat has finally pulled himself away from the TV since the caucus and the N.H. primary are over! Over, Mary Jo

  4. I finally called Mike today. He got home this morning after two nights in the hospital. The surgery went fine. He says he is painless-even shoveled his walks since getting home.(He didn't have to lift though.)So all is well in Omaha. I guess I was off by one day-the surgery was Tuesday, January 8. It was originally scheduled for the 7th.

He told me Bob Smith is to see his doctor today or tomorrow to discuss a possible hip or knee surgery. Mike could not remember exactly which/or both???

Ed and I walked in this mild winter weather this morning: not much wind, 29 degrees, and the streets are clear of snow and ice. We were supposed to get 4 inches of snow by today, but now it is scaled back to one inch if it ever gets here.So far no sight of it.

Are you all following the presidential race? I still do not know exactly who I am for. I like Hillary but I fear she is too much of "the empire" mentality. John Edwards does point to the issue of corporations having too much power in place of the people's voice, but I do not think he can get elected. I need to see much more of Obama. Time will tell. It's certainly serious business.

I finished Christmas cards today. Wanted to start working on photos this afternoon, but just didn't have the energy to start. When I finish here, I will go to kitchen and begin to get dinner.

Kathy, thanks for your news about Brett this morning. I shared his story with the people at church this morning. I think it makes it more real for all of us when we get a personal account like that. I know we are all praying for Brett and his company.

All is well here for now. Take care. Mary C

  5. This is Mary C.

Hello again. Just remembered I wanted to give you the e-mail address for Grand Superior Lodge:

    www.grandsuperior.com

The Date is arrive on August 1. Enjoy the day, August 2. Celebration dinner is evening of August 2. Check out by 11:00 AM the morning of August 3.

This resort is about 40 minutes north of Duluth on Lake Superior. I'm not certain when check in time is. It may say on the web site. But if you arrive in Duluth early, you can bum around there until you can get into your room. We have reserved and paid for 3 bedroom units for family members. In other words, there is a kitchen and 3 bedrooms in each of 3 units. Greater details as to specific assigned rooms will be provided later. I give you the web site so that you can see what kind of place you will be going to.

The biggest job is deciding how to transport yourselves to this place.

Some will drive all the way. Others will get to Duluth by air and rent a car to go north. But with planning, and cooperation, perhaps you can share expenses on the car rental.

Let us pray for beautiful weather. Love, Mary C

  6. Good morning all. Just got back from walk on beach. Already almost 90* here in Palm Beach. We are at a Marriott time share. Paid $249.00 for 5 days, 4 nights. Just have to listen to 90 min. presentation on owning time share.
Linda doing well. More time off crutches. She can't walk on beach but otherwise doing well.
Still looking at homes, but still like Hilton Head Del Webb community. When we visit Rebecca next month we are going to look at Del Webb in Phoenix. Time will tell. We will leave Rhode Island as taxes are insane. Only two states lost population in last census, R.I. & Mich. Good union states run by taxers!
Good to hear about Brett. My last e-mail was from him was more upbeat than Kathy relayed, but its been a 3-4 weeks. We pray everyday for our soldiers and their goals.
Will close for now. Peg, how is leg? And Mike, are you making this prostate trip an annual event? Whats this nurse look like!! I do hope everyone is doing well. Good to hear Bob is looking at knee, hip fixes. I understanhip is cake walk compared to knee.
Fred, the MKX is a neat car. GPS is awesome, even with a few minor glitches. Ride is great and Sync is neat. Who knew my radio could talk to me!!
    Love- Bro Ed

  7. Hello from Oklahoma! Were the wind has finally stopped after blowing sustained at 25 to 30 miles per hour for days on end. My hair is finally back in its place!

I hope some of the other cousins will write as it is fun to hear from everyone and keep up with what is going on in their lives.

Katie went up to Mom and Dad's today. I'm having my first full week off in exactly four years and am heading up to St. Louis on Tuesday for a few days. Rebecca and I have plans to spend some quality time together on Monday before I leave town.

Looking forward to seeing Dave's newest baby (and Jesse, Abby and Brooke!). I'm also looking forward to seeing Grace (who I hear from a very good source had her first dance lesson the other day) and Michelle and Ethan and Madison. Ethan and Madison's Mom, Kara, has started her new job and part of one day will be spent with them so their Grandpa Jim (Nate's [Kara's husband] Dad) will have a bit of a break from babysitting. Nothing else planned except as much visiting as possible.

Wanted to mention how moving Mom's and Mary C's memories were of Aunt Doe and Aunt Lizzie at Christmas time. I've thought a lot about what a lovely piece of written family history those entries were.

Best wishes everyone! I hope you all are on the mend and will be up and around shortly. Sending up lots of prayers for Brett and everyone at home who is worrying.

    Love,
    Jenny
