Thanks Peg & Kathe for posting of pictures and keeping us informed as to the great sacrifices the young men like Brett & Kevin are giving for our country. We truly appreciate it and keep them in our prayers daily. It is a reminder of all the things we take for granted everyday we walk outside and don't worry about the loss of our life and freedom. God bless them and all who serve us so unselfishly. Today Beth finally had her toe surgery. She was the first one scheduled this morning and beginning to feel the full pain about now. Everything went well. She is popping a few pills right now and sees the doc. in 2 weeks and has the pins removed in 6 weeks. I must say, it has really slowed her down but we are grateful that all seems to have gone very well. We have a lot of activities scheduled for next week so we will have to see how she heals or we may have to cancel some of the activities. We are in the process of evaluating different health care packages as Ford has dropped all retires from their health plan. I constantly remind people who are always looking for security in the things of this world that there simply is no such thing!!!! The only sure things in all of life are as the Church has always taught, the Four Last Things - Death, Judgement, Heaven and Hell. There simply nothing else that is for sure and guranteed in this life on earth. The key as to why faith is so important in our lives - if you don't have that, you have nothing. The weather here has been a little closer to winter weather than fall. We still have some winterizing to do before it gets really cold and snowy (we had snow on Tuesday morning). I am going to enlist a couple of grandchildren to help us finish the winterizing. Beth just mentioned that we will soon need to get our manger scene up and it is a reminder of how little time left in this year. We will be hosting the Thanksgiving dinner at our house so we are slowly preparing for that. When we all gather together for that event, even our house becomes very small. Everyone here is healthy and doing well. I too will be a little early in wish both Mike and Pat a Happy Birthday. May God bless you all. Love, Deacon Joe
Fred, so good to hear from you finally. I will keep Beth in our prayers as she recovers (and Linda too). Good to get caught up. Keep us posted on how T Giving went. Love and hugs sissy p
Hi everyone! Good to hear from Fred.I'm so glad for Beth that she has finally had hertoe surgery. We pray for a quick and uneventful recovery. Ed said a week or so again that Linda was doing well. So that is good, too. See what you young onoes have to put up with as we olders begin replacing our parts-or mokifying them!!!
Fred, you forgot to mention our third soldier-Chris, who is upping for his fourth tour of duty to Iraq or whereever> Don't forget him in our prayers.
I have done a lot of cooking/baking this week. This morning, I made Mary Jo's pumpkin bars to take to church tonight for our community meal which St. Thomas is hosting. My timer stopped after about 7 minutes, so it got a bit dryer than is ideal. Ed put in a new battery and I think that will fix it. Mom got that timer for me. It is neat because it keeps ringing for about 2 minutes after the set-time.
Talked to Mary Jo who is cooming with her sister and daughters to MNPLS on the 17th. I had been looking forward to Pat coming as well, but he has pooped out. Any way we will look forward to hosting the rest of the familly for dessert Saturday afternoon.
Tomorrow Sue and Cathy will come early and we will bagin some work on the photographs which still sit around in several boxes in our upstairs hallways, and in numerous albums. Offer a prayer that we will have good sorting skills.
This week Ed and I went shopping for burial plots. We think we want to have our bodies taken to the church for final rites, and then be cremeated. (The cheapest funeral today is to go cremeation all the way-that is, if you donnot go big for an urn , or have your asses made into a diamond, or other such stuff. We want to talk to the kids before we make a decision. Today, a very simple funeral runs about $12,000; I bet by the time we go inflation will easily pput it to $15,ooo. I am apalled. Believe me there are no frills or expensive caskets or urns here. And this did not include the burial spot. Ed and I went with Mom to arrange she and Dad's funeral. Their Pre-Paid(they do not do pre-paid funerals here, only pre-planning) funerals were about half the cost of the quote given us this past week.
This kind of tells all of you how we have spent our week. Ever busy. Both of us saw a dentist this week as well.
Kids are ok. Sue returned from Conn. last Friday. There were incidents with the one girl for which she is gaurdian ad litemj. So that took up her Saturday. Yesterday morning she left for a Hinkley for a 2 day workshop on her duties as gaurdian ad litem. She is guardian for 2 girls and a boy who are siblings. She makes decisions in concert with the social workers, famimly and the court for the good of these kids.
Since I am not hearing too much from the other kids , I have to assume all is well.
We will celebrate Thanksgiving at Phil and Debbie's place with her family and with Ed's brother and their kids. So we are a big group. We all bring food to share. all our kids will come, except Chris and family who will celebrate with Patty's family in Duluth. (And of course Christina will not be coming from California.) Chris and Patty and family will come for supper on Friday after Thanksgiving as they have to bring Elizabeth back to the Cities for her job. She is working on a research project where she has to innoculate mice with experimental drugs. Most eventually die as the drugs may be toxic. So she has to take care of the dead mice as well. I guess she is liking the job.
Becky is in a special singing group at her high school. So we hope if the weather holds, to drive up for the concert on December 8.
Next week is my really busy week: book club; Sopcial Justice Committee on Tuesday night; weekly Bible group on Wednesday morning. Sue, Ed and I go to the Guthrie to see a play on Sunday at one o'clock. Then oit should let up.
Will close as Ed is rattling around in the kitchen , gettin our lunch ready. Love to all of you. Let us know what you are all up to.
