  1. I will try to bring you up-to-date with all our activities over the past week or so. We have been so busy starting with the Holy Hour for vocations to the priesthood & religious life last Thursday. I took the guy I am mentoring for the Permanent Diaconate on the First Friday Communion schedule & that is always a great experience. Saturday I had to witness a wedding between a Catholic & a Jew - now that was really an experience. I noticed that throughout the beautiful service there were very few responses even from the Catholics in attendance - which dosen't surprise me. Even doing a rosary at a funeral home anymore, I find myself saying the rosary pretty much alone - most don't even know the basic prayers!!!! It speaks volumes of what our Church has done over the past 40-years!! Saturday was also the return of the Cousino & Tim Lennon family from vacation up northern Michigan. They all had great weather & great time. Sunday, we celebrated the 40th wedding anniversary of a couple as I gave a special blessing at the meal. Went to their home for desert after the meal and ended up praying over several paper experiencing health problems. Just a spendid time with all these people. Monday I was one of two deacons (the other a Transitional Deacon from St. John Cantus - Chicago) for the profession of first vows for five sisters, Mary, Mother of the Eucharist (they are growing so fast they cannot build buildings fast enough). Tuesday I had to write procedures for purifying Sacred Vessels (we are finally catching up with what Rome said several years ago). My pastor is reveiwing them right now. Thursday, we celebrated Beth's birthday at the Chop House- we still are enjoying the memory of the meal. Last night, Becky & Albert took us & his parents, who are in town for a month, to celebrate both Beth & Albert's dad's birthday. Although we were invited to come to a wine tasting/dance party at Beck & Albert's tonight, we decided relax to reenergize. Tomorrow we are going to a 75th birthday party for a dear friend of ours. I tell you, there is never a dull moment around here - but we love it!! We attended a celebration of Al Krista's 20-years of Catholic Radio on Wednesday & met a convert to the Church & she is really on fire!!!! We are taking her to Assumption Grotto (our parish, East side of Detroit) on the feast day where 2 bishops will be celebrating the Holy Mass followed by Eucharistic Procession to a Grotto!!!! She can hardly wait! Pray for Beth as she will meet the doctor on Monday to determine whether she will go forward with her hammertoe surgery or have to start thinking about medication for high blood pressure. Hope all is going well with everyone. Love, Deacon Joe

  2. Hello to you all! Bret should be home soon. And Kevin as well. Hope you all have a good visit..

We are getting ready to go to the lake again tomorrow after noon lunch. Ed has a docto appt. in the morning as well as blood draw. And I have a blood draw too. We plan to stay at the lake until Monday, Aug 27. We usually get home about 12:30 PM.

Some of kids will join us over the week-end. I plan to go to St Scholastica with my Duluth friends on the 19th for a half day of "senior Programing". Its called Emeritus College. We usually have two speakers and a musical presentation. This year the latter will be on clog dancing. Sue is taking a few days vacation too.

Ed, Sue is still trying to get a fall date when she has to be in Conneticut, and will add the week-end to get to your place. So she has not given up hope yet.

I finally have unlimited phone service on our land line. I decided enough of this!!! So now I can call when I have time and figure you folks are home. I know I owe Pat a phone call and will try to call Julie tonight before she heads into Chicago.

We are well here. Enjoy hearing about all your doings. Hey, Jo, lets hear from you!! How did the ?Smiths ladies do in Chi Town?

Belated Happy BD to Beth. Hope you are able to proceed with your toe surgery.

Will close for now. Want to get a letter off to my senators and representative about the plan to send arms to the Middle East.

    Love to all. Mary C

  3. Hi everyone!
Hey, Mary and Ed, know that I would
love to have you stay with me when
we have our big family reunion in
    October!
I have a very busy, exciting week
    coming up. I have kindergarten
    round-up on Tuesday night, start
teaching my little pumpkins on Thursday, Brett is due to come home Wednesday or Thursday, and Alicia's future in-laws are throwing a big engagement bash for her and Norb
on Saturday! I'm kind of laying
low this weekend in order to get
    ready for the merry-go-round to
    begin!
I am so grateful for Brett's
leave. He said he got out of
    Afghanistan just in time, as
    radio communications had come in
right before he left that 200
    Taliban were coming to attack
their outpost. He will have 18
days before he goes back to
Afghanistan. He will then be there until he returns at the end of
    September of next year.
    Alicia, of course, is so
thrilled that he can be at her
    engagement party!
All the "Chicago Lennons" plan on
attending the party, so it will
be a great time to see everybody
    together. Julie also is coming
in. I think Kevin is suppose to
be coming, and I haven't heard if
    Brian plans to attend.
I'm going to go join Peg, Julie,
and Bev at the local movie theatre
tonight. It's an old-time theatre where an organist plays just
before the movie starts on a stage that raises and lowers. I've been there before with Peggy and it is soooo much fun.
I guess Pat and MJ are back in
    Clinton today to see Hillary.
    They're having us over tomorrow
for the usual 1:00 Lennon Sunday
    meal.
The Smith girls had a blast in
    Chicago. After the "young 'uns"
    got back from downtown, we
(Peg, MJ, me, and the Smiths) all met at a local pub/restaurant and
ate, talked, and laughed. It was
    so fun seeing them all.
    Keep in touch everybody. It's
    always so good keeping up
    this way.
Love and prayers to you all,
    Kathe

  5. Just a short note to let you know we had our July/August birthday celebrations yesterday with all the families coming here for dinner. We are proud to announce that we are expecting our 27th grandchild as Albert & Becky are expecting number 7 in April or thereabouts. We are all over joyed and immediately brought out our book of blessings for pregnant couples, Becky dialed up Albert, who is in England this week and prayed for a healthy and holy child of God. God bless you all. Love, Deacon Joe
