HAPPY EASTER

Hi there on this Good Friday. May you all have a very blessed and meaningful weekend!

Several people are asking where I have been..All I can say is that I am really busy! ThankGod!
I know my energy is still building up from being so sick but I am working hard and resting hard!
Good to hear from our bros! Mary, did you figure out what went wrong the first time you tried to blog? Sorry about your catastrophe in getting on to comment. Good to finally hear from you though....
Kathe and I head over to Clinton tomorrow to see Pat and MJ, their girls and hubbies, Tom and Roseanne are driving over and of course, Julie. Dinner Sun after Easter Mass with Pat. Kathe and I are planning on hitting our parish for a couple of things going on this afternoon and I had the fun of closing down today so I will run and do some errands.
Well, I hope you guys share some of the Easter guff with the site here..Love m

  1. If anyone is interested I have been able to cut down your Mom's pie crust receipe so the receipe will only make 1 pie crust.(the receipe that I have will make 3 pies!!!) Both times the crust has been very good.

Hope everyone has had a Blessed Easter!

  2. Happy Easter everyone - you know we celebrate Easter through next Sunday, it is not just a one day event!!! In any event, I hope all of you experienced a deeper intimacy with the living Christ that a good Lent will result in. The Holy Week at my assigned parish was the best ever - we even celebrated Tenebrae this year and some people left weeping. We had nine people come into the Church this year at the Vigil which was just outstanding. And then Beth and I topped it all off Sunday morning by attending the orchestral Holy Mass at Assumption Grotto (the Novus Ordo, ad orientum, in Latin,...),- it was a touch of Heaven!! We got home around noon and then all the families began to arrive at 1pm. The last families left around 8:30pm and everyone had more than enough to eat. Beth and I were exhausted and slept in this moring - I finally got up at 5am. So today we made it our lazy day and will have to put it back in gear tomorrow. We all prayed for a white Christmas but we sent it snail-mail and we got a white Easter. Still cold here and to remain that way until the end of the week with predicted snow tonight. Expecting to hear from you Peg with an update on the Easter in Clinton. Mary, enjoyed your email and I know how frustrating it is when you type all that info and then lose it (I wonder if you forgot to choose the right identity before typing the info). Everyone here is doing OK - only minor illnesses here and there. We will keep praying for Sue as that has to be terrible not knowing how to stabilize the medication - we think of Alex in that regard many times. Again, Happy Easter to everyone and may God bless you profoundly!!! Deacon Joe

So fun to see what everyone is doing and Mary thanks for your great letter. Sat evening we joined Marianne(congrats on your and Ryan's weight losses!!) and Karen and Luke and Pat and Julie and Kathe and MJ of course for a bull session at a local watering hole...It was great fun and yes, we all agreed we are sooo blessed! 5. Hi all. Just had to say, yeah, Linda, Im glad someone is still baking pies. One does begin to wonder if its becoming a lost art. Im afraid my recipe for pie crust doesnt get used very often anymore. I sure cant eat a whole pie. If you will notice, even restaurants hardly have pie on their menu's anymore and when they do the crust is disgusting.
Linda making pies reminds me of the time we went to visit them years ago and it was blueberry season. We went down the road to pick in the morning, the most fabulous blueberries I have every seen, and then we carried home our treasures and Linda made the best blueberry muffins, and pie that I have ever had. I can taste that pie still in my memory. Linda is the consumate cook. Hey Ed and Linda, let us know how Edwards shoulder surgery recovery is coming along?? Still undergoing any physical therapy? How are the fish in the pond doing? Do they stay in all winter and hibernate? Clue us in on that one.

  6. Hard to believe we are celebrating Divine Mercy Sunday already but time does fly!! The parish I serve at is having a beautiful Divine Mercy service including Holy Mass. I am really looking forward to it. We went to a talk Thursday nite on Divine Mercy given by the priest I deaconed with when we still lived in Dearborn and it was just great!! He talked, among other things, the power of saying the Divine Mercy Chaplet at the bedside of a dying person. How we need to understand fully the Mercy of God!!! Tim, Sheila and family left early this morning for Tennesee for a weeks vacation. They thought they would be getting in warmer climate but we here are not too sure that is going to happen - we have had nothing but cold weather for weeks now. In fact, several of our kids and their families have been hit with serious sickness - Wendy sounds in terrible shape as she has a nasty cold and Brad is just recovering from it. Next week, Brad and his two sons and I are driving to Notre Dame to take in the spring football game. They are diehard Michigan fans and plan to wear Michigan clothing so I hope Notre Dame treats us well. If anyone from Chicago area wants to meet us there, let us know - that would be fun!! Pray for us as we will be watching Becky & Alberts children while they go on a week long trip to Rome May 11-18. They are going with some friends and may have an audience with the Pope. This is to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary. We look at all these grandchildren of ours and see them becoming adults and you realize how fast time flies by!! Because of Easter break, they were all sleeping over at different houses with different families and it was a site to behold - much fun!! I must admit, it keeps us young. By the way Ed & Linda, we had dinner tonight at the Lord Fox and thought of you guys - it was excellent as usual. I better close as it is getting close to my bedtime. May you all experience God's Divine Mercy. Deacon Joe

  7. here is the Pie Crust:

    6 C sifted flour
    1-1/2 t. salt
    3/4 C tap water
    2-1/2 C Crisco

Put salt in flour & put Crisco on top & mix by hand. Add water & mix till it forms a uniform ball.

    This makes 3 pies

    Cut down

    2 C Sifted flour
    1/2 t salt
    1/4 C tap water
    3/4 C Crisco

I used presifted flour in both receipes and did not sift flour - I also used a different shortening - found no difference.

Used a shortening cutter instead of my hands all when well

    Good eating!
